Venice Day 2

July 18, 2021

We woke but this morning with a plan to visit Murano and learn about glass making. We went to the front desk and asked for their recommendations about what is a good shop to go visit. The man at the front desk said he would call a company and they would send a water taxi for us. We were taken to the canal to hop on the water taxi. The water taxi took us right to a dock where we were meet by a shop employee name Ari. We arrive at Veteria Estevan Rossetto to learn about Glass.

Water Taxi ride to Murano
We saw different areas of Venice as well as people working on their Gondola skills in the open waters.
Lighthouse on Murano, Cemetery was on its own island, sort of a grass area in the water where it looked like someone was working, another shot of Venice

We then we taken into the work shop room to see a demonstration of glass making. We learned that Glass blowing is just one technique used to make different pieces. We saw the man making a cup and a horse. After watching the demonstrations we were taken into the factory room that had some amazing pieces. If I had space I would want some light fixtures or a nice chandelier. I also need a lot more money! They had a store room that was open to people coming in off the street where you could find pieces for less than €1000.

There were different ovens used to heat things. The oven is used to reheat the glass during the process. The table was used to roll the item to make the sides rounded.
The clear horse was made in 60 seconds. Once the glass was removed from the fire he had 60 seconds to make the horse before the glass would harden, because of the size it can’t be put back into the oven.
I found a horse in the factory room that I liked but it was listed at €4500, but they said I could get it shipped and insured for €2250. Still way too much for what I had budgeted. I ended up getting this €15 horse for free from Ari the person who was helping us during our tour.
I bought this Gondola for €50.

If you make a large purchase you get a water taxi ride for free back to Venice. They offered to take us to Burano a neighboring island, but we didn’t have time. We rode in the taxi with another family back to Venice. We decided to stop for some lunch before grabbing our stuff to go to our next hotel.

I had a Bellini with lunch. We went with some light items- smoked salmon, cheese, and veggies for lunch today.

Then we walked back to the hotel to grab all of our stuff and the got on the water bus to go to our next hotel. Well the person at our next hotel told us to catch bus 2 towards Rialto. The issue with that is that bus 2 really goes in the opposite direction and then ping pong from Venice to outlying islands. We realized we were on the wrong one, but we confused which one we should have gotten on. Evidently we need 2/ (which we did not look for a / when looking at the board). So we ended up getting off at San Marco and walking to 15 ish minutes to meet up with the woman who had the apartment we were renting for the night.

Once that fun was over and we made it to the correct spot we found the place we were staying it was a cute ground floor apartment on the canal. It had 2 beds at least 3 tables to eat at, with 1 being outside. We were provided with a couple bottles of water and a bottle or Prosecco to enjoy from the host which was nice.

The views from the porch were really nice. Aly and I sat outside and drank our Prosecco watching the boats go by. We were offered a 1/2 priced Gondola ride, but we passed. It would have been a fun thing to do if we were staying there longer (take boat ride from the dock).
After checking we decided to see a few more things I had on my list. We found Calle Varisco which as you can see the street really narrows on the way to the canal. After doing the Napoli Underground we through this street was still really wide. We didn’t have to turn sideways, so we felt we had tons of room. It was still fun to see the street.
We found the Ponte De Chido which was you can see is a bridge with no side. K though I was going to push her in, so she didn’t want to get close to me!
When we were leaving a woman did sit on the edge to get some pictures. I had to desire to sit down on that bridge let alone near the edge. Following into the canal would have been awful.
We did some more walking around. I was on a mission for fun decorations. I saw a lot of fun door knobs, but I did not get a lot of pictures.
We ate at AI Grill. We made reservations, but we were able to easily get a table. By 7:30 it was starting to fill up. Aly and I shared the meat plate – chicken, sausage, ribs, steak. Deserter was tiramisu and a chocolate lava cake, bread, a coffee liquor shot, Hugo
We had to get up at 4 am to catch out flight back to Napoli. This is about 5 am on the water bus on the Grand Canal.
