June 7, 2022 – The Adventure home

Mom and I woke up and decided we wanted to go check out the location for the bus we were going to take to the Seattle airport from Vancouver. It was a quick walk and the pick up was in front of the skytrain station about 5 minutes from the hotel. We walked back to the hotel and stopped for coffee at Starbucks and the headed back to the room to wake the girls up. Jennah requested that we go back to Tim Horton’s for breakfast (she wanted donuts). Since it is close and easy we walked over there and grabbed food and sat outside enjoying the weather.

Back at the hotel we got all our things together and decided to head to the bus stop. Mom thought the bus was at 10:45am and we left the hotel at 10:15am. The bus pick up time was really 10:25, so luckily we made it in time since we left what we thought was early. We put out bags under the charter bus and found some seats. Luckily this was the first stop, so the bus wasn’t busy. Turns out the next stop was right in front of our hotel. There were several stops around Vancouver with the most people getting on at a Casino near the airport.

Before we left the last stop we were given US custom forms to fill out for the boarder crossing. It took maybe an hour to get to the boarder where everyone had to get off and grab all of their stuff. Luckily we had a spot near the front so we were the 2nd group to go through customs. This also meant we got to hit the bathrooms first before getting back on the bus. The bus drive then organized all the suitcases based on where he was dropping people off.

We packed water, lunch mates, and snacks for the bus ride.

Once in Washington State there were several stops. The first one was a Bellingham Airport and then headed down to Seattle. There were several stops in Seattle before heading out to the Seattle airport. From the time we were picked up until we made it to the airport it was almost 6 hours. While the drive was long it was a good alternative with the Covid testing requirements for flying into the US (for course the were lifted after our trip!).

Once at the airport we were able to drop our stuff off and go through security. We checked most of our bags, so we only had backpacks to carry on. It was still bout 5 hours until our flight, so we found an area to relax and wait for the flight.

During our Whale watching trip our guide told us a story about Alaska airlines. Years ago when the plane was taking off in Juneau the pilot heard a thud and they turned around for an emergency landing. While checking out the plane they found a fish with talon marks on the top of the plane. So in tribute to the story and Alaska fisheries they added a plane in their fleet that is the Salmon Thirty Salmon. When we were waiting for our flight we saw it taking off. I was too excited to show everyone to get a picture.

The girls and I decided to get happy meals from McDonalds for dinner. Nana had a regular Quarter Pounder. We were trying to go “light” food and cheap. The sit down places were so expensive. We were offered dinner on our flight, but it was 10pm so we passed on the meal. the flight left at 9:20pm and arrived into Orlando at 5:30 am on Wednesday. I think I got 5 minutes of sleep. I don’t think the girls slept at all on the flight home.
