June 16, 2022 – Brussels, Belgium

The girls woke up around 4am and were super hyper by 5am. I could hear them running around upstairs. I kept going back to sleep until 7:30 am.

We washed clothes last night so had fresh clothes even though this is day 3 of the same outfit. We headed out to get some breakfast. Along the way we stopped and looked in a few stores and crazy statues.

Cat on a Bike
The streets are nice and quiet in the morning.
We stopped at Panos for breakfast they had a lot of options and outdoor seating.

It was 64 outside and felt great in the shade.

Jennah had a chocolate croissant.
I had a double chocolate croissant.
Horta Gallery
Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula. Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels
A chapel dedicated to St. Michael was built here as early as the 9th century. In the 11th century it was replaced by a Romanesque church which in 1047 became a “collegiate church”
From what I read it said the Pulpit is from 1699!!
I thought this building on the corner was fun.
King Albert I
Mont des Arts Garden
Mont des Arts Garden

Below the Place Royale, the Mont des Arts garden opens up a wide panorama towards the Grand Place and the historic center of Brussels and provides a green transition between the upper and lower parts of the city.
This building was cool looking too
Place Royal or Koningsplein is a historical neoclassical square in the Royal Quarter of Brussels.
We were headed to the Comic Book Museum and would stop when we saw something cool and just sort of wander.
We found the tomb of the unknown solider

Saw some paramedics working on a kid at the Comic Museum. He carried her outside.

We finally made it to the Comic Book Museum. It was very interesting talking about the history of comics and how it started. Talked about how the Monks used it to tell stories with settings, people, etc. Then it progressed to comics now.

Sitting waiting on Kelle.
A sign at the Comic museum that Kelle thought Dad would like.

After hitting the comic museum we walked back towards are flat and grabbed lunch at Quick Hamburgers. It is the Belgium version of McDonalds. We got our food and headed back to the room, so we could eat and relax. Kelle and I were also trying to figure out what was going on with our bags. We got an alert that they had arrived in Brussels, but we couldn’t get any information about when they would get delivered. We had the Delta messenger and they just kept giving us a number to call or telling us they would send our chat to a different department. We had mom help out and that person told her to go to the airport. So finally Kelle and I decided to head to the airport. We left the girls at the flat since the train is expensive. IT was 37 Euro for Kelle and I to take the train round trip to the airport. There was a delay with the train, so Kelle and I stopped into the Leonidas and got some milk chocolate Carmel chocolates. Then we waited for the train. It was about 15 minutes late.

Once the train arrived we ate a piece of chlorate on the way to the airport. We paid 3.25 Euro for this.

Once at the airport we followed the signs for lost baggage. We spoke with the security officer and gave him our tickets and baggage claim information. He then let us through to go to the place we filled our claim on Wednesday. We saw our bags on the rack and gave another person our bag tags and signed a paper. If they had told us on Wednesday that was all we needed to do to get our bags we would have come in the morning. Then we headed back to the train and this time the delay was 25 minutes!!! By the time Kelle and I made it had been 2 hours!!! I will be writing to Delta and sending them our train ticket since that was expensive to get out bags because of their mistake.

Elisabeth Chocolate

Once back the Flat we got the girls ready to head back out into the world. We stopped at Elisabeth Chocolate and each bought a different piece. Mine said Earl Grey but the lady said something about Hazelnuts (it was still good). Bella’s heart had caramel. Kelle’s one with pink swirls was Rose and Pepper, Jennah’s with the pink sprinkles was a raspberry. This was 3.45 Euro.

We did see the Godiva store, but did not go in.
For dinner we ate at the Drug Opera
I had the Shrimp Croquettes which evidently is a traditional Belgium food.
The Jupiler is a paper Belgium beer making up 40% of the market sales. It sort of tastes like Budweiser to me. I just wanted to be fancy and use a fun glass. The beer was only 1.80 Euro at the little liquor store on the corner.
Jennah was a little disappointed we only stopped at 1 chocolate place, so we went back out at 8 pm and found this place still open.
Bella and her chocolate pig.
A large collection of chocolate – white chocolate, Carmel, popcorn, raspberry, tiramisu and a few other flavors. This place was the most expensive it was 16 Euro for the Chocolate. we took our chocolates back home and had a piece.
