June 24, 2023 Ketchikan, AK

Nice and easy morning today. Woke up and headed up to Cove for some coffee. Then down to Triton’s for breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and some bacon.

The shops opened for an hour this morning since we didn’t get into port until 11am. We walked around inside the shops (mom has some credit left). Then on deck 4 before heading to our room to enjoy the view.

Watched planes taking off at Ketchikan airport.

Hopped onto the Trolley to head to the totem park just south of town. When we turned into the totem park I remember driving past it last year when we were heading to the raptors.

Totem poles are made from Red Cedar. The trees have to be at least 250 years old before they can be used for totem poles. Yellow Cedar was used for canoe and paddles.

After the trolley tour we walked around Creek Street and checked out the different shops. This boardwalk area places on stilts above the Ketchikan Creek.

Creek Street was built and started operating in the last 1890s as “the red light” district. Things really started taking off in the 1920s with prohibition. All the houses on creek street had trap doors on the floor since delivers could be made at high tide. According to old police records there were 30 brothels on creek street.

Not sure if this is still a working hotel.

After walking around we decided to get a bite. We stopped at The Alaska Fish House. I decided on the Halibut and Chips. Mom had the clam chowder. Expensive but yummy, we hadn’t eaten in any of the other ports. So we decided it was worth the price.

After eating we walked around a little more to make sure we had all the souvenirs we might want.

When we got back to the room we had another towel animal (mouse)

Dinner tonight was back in Animators. Tonight is drawing night. We took a look outside to see the tide changes and the line to get back on board was crazy long! Everyone trying to get back in time for dinner or their show time.

Tomato Caprese- Buffalo mozzarella, Italian Roma tomatoes and pickled basil, drizzled with olive oil
Chicken schnitzel- breaded chicken breast fried in butter, served with roasted bacon potatoes and buttered green beans
Celebration cake- layers of cheesecake covered with strawberries embedded in rich vanilla cream and white chocolate

While waiting to leave we saw and eagle catch a fish and swim past. It was super cool.

As we sailed off there was this amazing yacht. It has a hot tub on the back that we could see. Then we went inside to watch Elemental.
