Glacier Day July 10, 2025

Woke up and hit the gym for morning stretch. We could see lots of mountains and trees while moving through this morning.

After stretch we met mom in Cove Cafe for a coffee. We have been taking the time to sit and relax inside cover and have nice glasses and not the paper cups.

I’m excited for glacier day and looking forward to seeing lots of wildlife. It is cold today for sure. The TV said it will be a high of 54 today. A little overcast and cold to start the morning. After breakfast we went to deck 10 but decided that we should go back to the room for more layers. We started seeing lots of whales today which was exciting. Time to relax and watch the water for signs of whales.

We stayed on Deck 10 for a while looking at whales and then decided to head down to deck 4. So far lots of pretty mountains and tons of whales. Always a good sign for glacier day. Hopefully we will see a lot more during the day.

Great pictures of some glaciers on the mountain
So exciting to see snow still on the mountains
Always exciting to see the whales
The whales seems so close to the ship they were still a good ways off, but cool to see them while heading to Dawes Glacier

We went back to the room and ordered some room services before our glacier excursions. We started to see more whales and some glaciers on the mountains.

This trip we did the glacier boat tour. We got an a smaller boat and got a closer look at the landscape and glacier. The ship and the smaller boat take the same route to the glacier.

We stopped really close to a water fall coming into the ocean.

At one point the captain was so close we are pretty sure the boat scrapped the rock side.
We were excited to start seeing some Harbor seals as we approached the glaciers.
As we approached the glacier you could see the fog move in and feel the weather get colder.

Then we got about quarter of a mile from Dawes glacier.

The Wonder starting to come around the bend. It followed the track we were on in the smaller boat as all boats were heading to the glacier.

The captain said the ice sticking out of the water was about 300 feet high and then could be up to another 500 under the water. We were at high tide when we approached the glacier.

We saw several harbor seals sitting on ice bergs and a few fighting off in the distance.  I need to spend more time going through my camera to find the pictures of the seals.

I saw an eagle flying by and while I as focused on the eagle some people saw mountain goats in the same area the eagle had just flown by.

Eagle flying
Mountain goats
Little mountain goat hanging out on the rocks. We would see more later on the other side of the shore.
The little black blob is a seal on the ice
The 2 black blobs in the water are seals. They were having a battle in the water and you could see water splashing around. My lens just ins’t long enough to get a better shot.
The splash in the middle is where the seals were fighting.

We did see a few eagles and saw some mountains goats. The tiny white dots are the mountains goats. 🐐

You have to look closely since the goats look like rocks, but you can see a few goats about to cross the stream and a few on the right side of the photo.
I was shocked at how many goat were along the rocky side. The captain said he hasn’t see mountain goats this close to the glacier before.
The icebergs were just so pretty as we went past them in the smaller boat.

It was super cold and started to rain. The rain was more like sleet and pelted you in the face as the boat was going. Even though it was cold I wanted to stay outside and enjoy the view.

As we were getting ready to head back to the Wonder so the boat could switch and get a new group of people. There was a harbor seal that had come right up near the boat. It quickly dove back down and swam away.

Tonight was back in Tiana’s place, but the theme was Frozen freezing the night away. The frozen deck party was postponed because the rain was supposed to roll in after dinner.

Elsa’s coronation scallops
Cesar salad
Anna’s honey mustard marinated salmon with sautéed spinach and new potatoes

The dessert on this menu is not my favorite. So Jennah and I braved the rain and went to deck 9 for some ice cream.

We have to get up early tomorrow for our whale watching excursion. So we decided to watch a movie and relax in bed.
