Sitka, AK July 13, 2025

Had to get up early for our excursions. We ordered room service last night to save some time in the morning. When we arrived it Sitka it was rainy and 46 degrees.

On the boat at 7:26 am and ready for fun!
Super foggy morning can’t see much of the surrounding area

We headed down for our excursion to get on a boat and go out into the Sitka Sound. It was foggy, rainy and a bumpy ride heading out to sea.

You can see how foggy it was as we left to harbor.

We came across a large group of sea otters and a few had babies. They were also bunched into the sea kelp so at first it looked like a giant blob. There were also a few harbor seals on a rock close by. We got to watch a baby harbor seal climb out of the water onto the rock. It was pretty cute. We stayed there watching for a while before heading off to the next stop.

They were so close to the open ocean!
Harbor seals on the rock there are 3 up there
The baby harbor seal is the one closer to the ocean

The next stop in the ocean was to watch a mom humpback whale and her baby. We got to spend a good amount of time watching the whales before moving on to the next stop.

Nice view of the fog as we head into Silver Bay

Next stop was in Silver Bay where there was a salmon hatchery. As we were headed to the hatchery we saw salmon starting to jump.

There were tons of eagles along the bank. We saw about 70 during the boat ride just in the Silver Bay Area.

The Salmon jumping out of the water it was cool to see and probably the best picture I was able to get.
If you zoom in you can see the bear on the rocks

While looking at the eagles we spotted a bear cub along the shore. It was really cool. He stopped a few times and looked towards the boat but kept going. We never saw his mom but know she was close by in the trees watching.

The bear was on the rocks eating a salmon

As we moved down the river closer to the hatchery we saw the bear come out again this time it had a salmon it was eating.

It also looked like there was some kind of large jelly fish also in the water near the hatchery

We saw a lighthouse as we were coming back into harbor
We also saw a cost guard helicopter

After the boat tour we headed to a different dock to get on a bus to head to a bear sanctuary.

In the bear sanctuary they had two coast brown bears together and three black bears. All the bears there were recused pretty early in life. Bear cubs aren’t ready to be on their own until they are two years old.

Coastal Brown Bear
I only got pictures of 2 of the black bears. Not sure if these 2 are the siblings or not. All 3 black bears were born in the same year and most likely the same month.

After the bear sanctuary we headed to the Alaska Raptor center. We got to observe two eagles in the flight training center. This center had one way glass so the birds don’t become used to see people and can be released once they have gone through rehabilitation process.

There is no cover over these areas as the birds can only fly enough to get up on low branches which would make life in the wild very difficult for them.

The driver we had never gave us times to be back on the bus so towards the end it was a little confusing people started just making their way back since people were tired. Luckily the rain had stopped which was nice for walking around at the two sanctuaries.

The driver gave us the option to get dropped off in town or head back to the ship. There were three ships in port today and Sitka is a small town so we

decided to just head back to the port. There were some places for shopping at the port and only two ships were docked at the same location we were. Once back at the cruise terminal we stopped for some coffee and a snack before starting to do some shopping.

Back at the cruise port we stopped at a coffee shop for coffee and a snack before we started our shopping adventure.

We found a cute little honey truck. The one bad thing was nothing had prices so that was weird. We did learn that one of the jars of fireweed honey cost $79! The woman said all the honey is collected from hives up in Homer which is closer to Seward. The fireweed honey hives were kept in a remote area with just fireweed surrounding the location. So she said it takes a while to get out to the hives to collect the honey which adds to the cost of the jars of honey. It was a cute store but would have been nice if things had prices or some signs telling the prices.

We got some fudge at a store. The top on is basically chocolate and marshmallows. The bottom one is chocolate with butterscotch chips.

Once back on the ship we ran upstairs to grab a quick bite to eat. There were a lot of kids out in the pool today. The temperature was 57 but it did feel warmer in the sun. We did the Disney vacation club talk to get the free Hehi shoulder toys. Since we had two rooms we were able to get two.

We found two little mice on our bed when we got back on the ship!

Dinner tonight was in Tiana’s and they did the dance like. The girls did not join this time.

After dinner we weren’t to the Emperor’s new groove game show. It was pretty silly but everyone seemed to have fun. The room was separated into two groups and people were selected to do different challenges.

I met with the Disney vacation club people before heading up to the room so I could get my $50 in room credit. We couldn’t remember if we had prepaid our tips, so I wanted to make sure I had some credit if needed. Sadly my credit never showed up on my account.
