Cage dive with Galapagos Sharks! Don’t forget to bring you water proof camera! This was such an awesome experience. The boat headed out from the North Shore at 7am just as the sun was rising. A perfect way to start the morning. After about a 20 minute boat ride we arrived at our location. As soon as the boat turned off you started to see the sharks circle the boat. The cage was dropped into the water and it was time to get in the cage!!! Normally 6 people are allowed in the cage while the other 6 stay on the boat then after 30 minutes it is time to switch. This trip was done the end of September when there is a is “break” in the tourist season, so there were only 7 people on our boat trip. As soon as the cage was ready I was in the water and stayed the water until it was time to head back to shore. It was a great way to start the morning and a very cool experience. The cage was partially submerged you could snorkel at the top, go under the water or view from above the water. There was an acyclic barrier so the sharks could not swim in like they do on Shark Week. Make sure you do keep all body parts inside the cage better not to tempt the sharks. The guides were fishing off the boat and did chum the water a little to keep the sharks around. The guides were great and very knowledgeable about the sharks. There are many shark encounters that are offered in Hawai’i so check out which one works best for you. I really enjoyed my trip with Hawai’i Shark Encounters and would use them again.
