Seward to Anchorage June 14, 2019

Today we work up early on our last day in Seward. It was overcast, so we were happy to be hearing out of town. First stop was a coffee hut shaped like a mug! Once we had our coffee we then stopped at the port and saw 2 cruise ships that had arrived that morning. Then it was time to head back towards Anchorage. The goal for today was to go to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) and feed a Moose!!! It was overcast and raining there, but that was not going to stop me from safely getting close to a moose. We had time to walk around the center and check out the different animals that were living there. We could not see the bears they were hiding this morning. We were able to join the Moose feeding which was extremely exciting. We walked over and learned that we were going to meet Clark who is 1 year old and had been rescued near Lake Clark. Lake Clark National Park and Preserve is 150 miles southwest of Anchorage, on the west side of the Cook Inlet, at the north end of the Alaska Peninsula. After checking out the animals, feeding the moose, and hitting the gift shop it was time for lunch. AWCC would have been the perfect place for a picnic if the rain had stopped. Instead we had a picnic in the car before we go on the road to finish the drive into Anchorage.

We saw Elk and I pretty sure it is eating poop.
Caribou hanging out
Cloudy day in the mountains
Musk Oxen
I don’t remember this guy’s name, but he as just chilling today
Bella feeding Clark come Willow branches
Jennah’s turn to feed Clark
My turn to feed him!! Sadly we could only feed him and not touch him.
Clark is enjoying his Willow Branches

Once arriving in Anchorage to the downtown area to walk around and look for the train depot. After some walking around and checking out the downtown and finding different locations we headed to Earthquake park. Earthquake park it is on a walking trail that provides information about the 1964 Anchorage Earthquake. Next it was time to head to the Airbnb to relax and unpack the car. Upon arriving at the Airbnb we found that the cleaners were not yet done even though it was check in time. We decided to run to the grocery store to get some items while we waited. The Carrs near our place was full of interesting people inside and outside of the store. We quickly made our purchases and decided to drive around a little bit to give the cleaners a few more minutes to finish up. When we were finally able to enter the Airbnb we were glad to see how much space we had. There was living room upstairs and one downstairs, so plenty of room for the kids to spread out.

Then the fun part deciding where to have dinner!! We decided on Moose Tooth Pizza and ordering it to eat at the house. Once we finally decided on what to get (I selected pepperoni, reindeer sausage, and black olives) Kelle and I went and picked it up an hour and a half later. When we arrived the place was packed at 6:30, we had to wait a few more minutes to get our food and were thrilled we decided to order early and not dine in at Moose Tooth. The pizza was amazing and worth the wait. Kelle and I did have to eat quickly since we were going on a Ghost Tour at 7:30.

The Ghost Tour was very interesting there were some stories about ghost in there. Some history of the town, but I really felt like most of it was his stories about how he got the stories. Not really the interesting history or ghost stories. I also think it is hard to get into a ghost story when it was 9pm and looks like 1pm. After we finished the tour we did some souvenir shopping, which is part of what made me forget it was so late. Shops and restaurants were still open, bars were full of people coming and going. Luckily every where we stated had good blackout curtains, so we did not have difficulty sleeping. It was just hard to remember to go to sleep at night.

10 pm at night!!!
