Day 5 – Falmouth, Jamaica

Today we woke up and headed up to Cabanas for breakfast. This morning I went with foods that fit into a bowl: fruit, oatmeal and grits. After breakfast we walked upstairs to the 13th floor to take some pictures of the Island. We found the mini golf section, which was cool. Then we went downstairs to head off the ship.

We walked around the port section a little and decided to go out into the city. We talked to a man who does Pedi cabs, but decided to walk a little before we decided to do that. We got out of the gates and there were people everywhere trying to get us to take walking tours or driving tours. We made a square up 1 block, over, down, and back to the cruise section. We realized we didn’t have a clue what to see on the Island and there were cars everywhere not really any sidewalks. So back to the port area and the Pedi cabs. We met our drive Thomas who is from the Island. He took us to the Albert George Market Commercial area. This was built in 1894 and was once the largest market on the island. The Water Square was the first section to have a reservoir to supply water to the town. It was in use from 1798 until 1954. This square was also used as a market where enslaved Africans and later peasants sold their provisions. There is still a market in Falmouth held every Wednesday. As we were going by there were people selling fresh fruit, peanut porridge.  They had bags of grapes, sliced mangos, sliced pineapples. I should have brought more cash. I really needed to remember that for the next time I do a Caribbean cruise bring $100 cash/port. I don’t think I would have spent it all but I would have gotten a few more things if I had more cash.

We then headed to St. Peter’s Anglican Church it was built in 1795.  Mom and I walked around the church and cemetery. A donation is asked for when going into the church. Again a good reason to have some extra cash. The church is the tallest structure in Falmouth. From the ship it looked tall, but when we got close it didn’t seem that tall, but most of the other structures on the island were only 2 stories. There were people selling things outside. We bought from 2 of the 4 people. I think the people we didn’t buy from were disappointed, but we didn’t need that much stuff.

The top of this clock tower on the Church is the tallest building in Falmouth.

We came back into the pier section and found the Starbucks but Margaretville. They had Wi-Fi that worked which was awesome. They did not have the cups that I collect; to I was a little sad about that. We got some drinks and sat down to relax for a while to enjoy the AC and Internet. Then we walked around a few shops and I got a new charm at Pandora. Then it was time to head back onto the ship.

Peanut Butter Ice Box Cake.

Once back on board we went upstairs and had lunch. I had half a baked potato, brisket, and carrots. For dessert I tried the Peanut Butter Ice Box Cake. It tasted a little like my peanut butter pie.

Then it was time for the pool. We went up to quiet cove and found some chairs to relax in while enjoying the view of Jamaica. We got in the pool for a bit, but it was very crowded. So we sat in our chairs reading and drinking a Bon Voyage drink (Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri). Once we got too hot we went back the room for another movie! This time we watched Mulan and some of Emperor’s New Grove until dinner

Dinner tonight at Enchanted Garden

At dinner tonight we were back at Enchanted Garden. Our tablemates did not show up tonight, so mom and I spread out, and enjoyed our dinner. Tonight I had the shrimp with Jambalaya rice.

Shrimp with Jambalaya Rice. The tomato sauce in the rice was a little overwhelming, but then again I am not big on tomato sauce.
The Enchanted Garden Platter – salami, ham, baguette, and Peach Marmalade. This was interesting. The salami had a lot of pepper on it. Not sure if I would get it again.
New York Strip Steak with truffle potatoes. So good!!! The truffle potatoes are amazing.
Creme Brûlée cheesecake. 2 nights in a row of good cheesecake!!!!
back at Skyline
trying my super strong drink
Aquincum – Casamigos Respodao, Gran Marnier, paprika (on the rim), and freshly squeezed lime Juice.

After dinner we headed back to Skyline bar to have some drinks. I had Aquincum – Casamigos Respodao, Gran Marnier, paprika (on the rim), and freshly squeezed lime Juice. Man this drink was strong!!!! I would not get this one again. I got the Paris 75 for my 2nd drink. It was just as good as the 1st time. After having 2 drinks we decided we were done and went back to the room. In the room we found our towel animal and a Star Wars banner.

Star Wars fun starts tomorrow!!!
