June 15, 2022 – Brussels, Belgium

We landed in Brussels at 10:45 am. We got off the plain and went through customs pretty easily. There was a little line but not too bad. Then we went over to baggage claim. My Delta app was showing our bags made it to NYC, but not that they had made it onto the flight since there was only 30 minutes from when we finally made it to the gate and our next plane left. So we found another line to wait in to find out about getting our bags delivered to us. That took about 60 minutes standing in line waiting since there was only 1 person working. We finally got all our information dropped off and left the airport. We were told someone would bring our suitcase one it arrived.

We caught the train to the city and started walking to the apartment. We had started in the correct direction and then got a little off but finally made it to the location. I hadn’t gotten my wifi working yet, so I was trying to follow the dot on my phone and make sure we were going in the right direction. I got distracted by the flowers down a street and started taking us in the wrong direction, but we found some places we were looking for so it was all good.

This was the street I got distracted by with all the pretty flowers.

Front of the Flat with a little seating area.
The street our Flat is on. Very cute tons of place to eat near by.

After we found our place and dropped off our backpack we decided to head out and grab a late lunch. By now it is almost 2pm, so we don’t want to nap or eat too much. We passed several Waffle places on the way to our Flat, so we decided to head back and stop in at one of them.

We decided on Waffle Factory. You select your type of waffle and then your toppings. Bella went with the Liege waffle with Strawberries and Nutella. I went with the Liege waffle with white chlorate and whipped cream. Very yummy. Jennah got picture of hers, I will have to get those later.
One of the things on our 10 things list was a funny sign. We decided this one was a good start.
We saw our first comic strip on the wall.

Since we were low on clothes we knew we needed at least a shirt, so we could get some clothes washed to wear again tomorrow. We stopped at a souvenir place and found some shirts 2 for 20 Euro that would fit the bill. Then we decided to start walking again to explore. As we were walking we saw the Chocolate Museum , so we decided to check it out. For 11 euro for adults and maybe 9 Euro for kids we were given a piece of chocolate and head set to start the tour.

Entrance chocolate to the museum.

There was a ton of information about the process of getting the cocoa, growing the beans, how chocolate became what it is today. There was almost too much information, but it was really cool. There is an entire section on the cups used to drink the chocolate, contained to make the chocolate drinks, so much information.

I thought the mustache cups were funny. So the men wouldn’t get their mustaches wet when drinking the chocolate they had special cups.

Then towards the end is an area where you can sample different chocolates. After then you get to watch a demonstration of someone making the chocolate pralines and then taste them. It was pretty cool to watch that.
Manneken Pis very big in Brussels
On the way out of the museum we got this 2 crazies to pose with the snake.

After we finished there we started back on our mission to find the fountain for Manneken Pis.

I thought this building was cool with the bikes on it. Evidently biking is really big in Brussels.
We found Manneken Pis and took and picture and left. It is a big deal in Brussels, but I don’t get it.

We decided to head back to the Flat to relax for a little while and the decide on dinner, so we could call it an early night. We decided to just eat at on the places on our street since we didn’t have to go very far and we knew they opened early for dinner.

We went to Le Coin de l’Ecailler and had a nice table in the shade.
I went with the steak, salad and fried combo.
Kelle had the mussels and fries. Evidently mussels are a regional dish we saw it at tons of places.
Bella had the chicken, salad and fries

Jennah had spaghetti with Bolognese sauce

After dinner we went on a mission to find some laundry soap, we didn’t need a lot because I have tons in my suitcase! We found a little grocery store and had fun looking at all of the different items they had. There was pepperoni pizza Doritos. Several different brands of chips that had Paprika chips. The store only had large containers of laundry soap so we found a laundry mat to get a single. Then we headed back “home” and looked at different shops along the way. Tons of things to check out tomorrow and so many places to eat and so little time!!!
